Inner strength ministries began in 1991, in the basement of a church.
The church gave me a room in their basement with a heavy bag and a weight bench. Within three weeks there were three different gangs involved in a workout program that God designed himself.
I worked full-time, five days a week as a trash man for the city by day and then ran the gym at night. We started doing fundraisers to purchase equipment and came up with the T-shirt design called Inner Strength Fight Team. All the proceeds that were made went towards gloves, bags, hoodies & T-shirts and it’s grown into what it is today.
A lot of lives were touched or changed in this program. Many people were leaving the gang life and getting involved in different programs that would help them move forward with their lives in a more positive way.
There were also quite a few deaths, funerals and prison sentences.
A lot of blood, sweat and tears came forth in order to birth the ministry.
It’s our mission to build people up from the inside out.
To train, to challenge to push and to provide a community to lean on in order to be someone greater, and be a part of something greater than ourselves.
